Why expert advice is worth having

Organisations rarely fail Environment Audit because the standard is hard. They fail because the evidence does not match what the auditor asks for.

1

The certification body is independent

We prepare you for Environment Audit, and an accredited body decides. Because we do not issue the certificate, our only interest is that you actually pass, which is what makes the preparation worth paying for.

2

Your team already has a day job

Running Environment Audit in house means taking your most capable people off revenue work for months. For most organisations that hidden cost is larger than the fee for doing it properly.

3

Scope decides the price

Getting the Environment Audit scope wrong is expensive in both directions. Too wide and you pay for audit days you never needed. Too narrow and the certificate does not cover what your customer asked about.

4

Someone has to own the detail

Environment Audit generates a large amount of small, unglamorous work. Left to whoever has a spare afternoon it drifts for months. Given an owner with a plan it takes weeks.

Prefer to just ask someone about Environment Audit rather than fill in a form?

What Environment Audit is worth to you

Certification is a commercial decision before it is a technical one. This is where the return usually shows up.

Consent Conditions Verified

Checking real discharge, emission and waste practice against consent limits avoids a closure notice from the pollution control board.

Legacy Liability Found

Site audits uncover contaminated ground, unauthorised storage and buried waste before a purchaser or an inspector finds it first.

Statutory Returns Accurate

Environmental statements and returns filed on verified data protect the signatory from later allegations of misdeclaration.

Resource Savings Identified

Audits routinely find water, solvent and packaging losses that pay for the exercise several times over within a year.

Look at how it is structured before you commit

The quickest way to judge a consultant is to look at their paperwork. In a demo we open our Environment Audit document set and show you the hierarchy: what sits in the manual, what drops into procedures, what becomes a form, and how each one traces back to a clause the auditor will ask about.

Environment Audit in detail

Testing environmental performance against consent conditions

An environment audit checks what a site actually releases and disposes of, and whether it does so within the conditions it has been given. That covers consent to establish and operate, air emissions and stack monitoring, effluent quality and discharge route, hazardous and non hazardous waste generation, storage, manifests and authorised disposal, noise levels, groundwater and stormwater, and the specific conditions written into the pollution control board's consent letter. Those conditions are site specific, and most findings originate there.

In India many operations must file an annual environmental statement, and the audit is what gives that return substance. Audits are also commissioned before an expansion, during due diligence on an acquisition, for corporate reporting, or ahead of a board inspection. Chemical plants, textile processing units, pharmaceutical manufacturers, foundries, food processors and industrial estates make up most of the demand. Multinational parents often require them regardless of local rules.

Emissions, effluent, waste and the paperwork behind each

We start with the consents and their conditions, then follow the material. Inputs, water balance, energy and fuel use, and every output route: stacks with their monitoring records and calibration status, effluent treatment plant performance against inlet and outlet parameters, sludge handling, hazardous waste storage conditions and time limits, sale of recyclables to authorised recyclers, and the manifest trail that ought to reconcile with generation. Reconciliation gaps are common, and they matter, because the paperwork is the compliance.

On site we inspect treatment plant operation rather than reading the log, check whether monitoring equipment is calibrated and whether flow meters actually run, look for bypass arrangements, examine chemical and fuel storage for containment, and review spill response. Laboratory results are compared against what the process could plausibly produce. Where numbers look too good for the process running that day, we say so and explain why the discrepancy matters.

A compliance position, and the statutory return that follows

The report gives a compliance position condition by condition, findings with evidence and a risk rating, corrective actions with cost indications, and the data organised so it feeds directly into your statutory return instead of being recompiled later by somebody else. Where consent renewal or an amendment is due, we identify what needs fixing before the application goes in. MSCi performs the audit directly. Consents and clearances remain decisions for the pollution control board.

The immediate benefit is fewer unpleasant surprises during a board inspection, because the site already knows what an inspector would find. Beyond compliance, the material balance usually shows recoverable value: water that can be reused, solvent that can be recovered, waste streams misclassified into an expensive disposal route. Those findings frequently pay for the audit, which makes approving the next one a much shorter conversation.

Environment Audit questions we are asked most

What does Environment Audit actually require from us?

Checks environmental compliance and consent conditions before a regulator does. You will need a defined scope, documentation that reflects actual practice rather than intent, evidence the system has been operating for a reasonable period, trained staff, and at least one internal audit and management review on file.

What is a realistic timeline for Environment Audit?

Most Environment Audit projects run three months or so. The single biggest variable is not the standard, it is how fast your team can be freed up for training and internal audit alongside their normal work.

Do you issue the Environment Audit certificate yourselves?

No, and no consultant should. The certificate comes from an independent accredited certification body after their own audit. We prepare you to pass it and we are there on the day to close findings. That separation is exactly what makes the certificate worth holding.

What does Environment Audit consultancy cost?

It depends on your headcount, how many sites are in scope and how much of a system already exists, so we quote after a short conversation rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong for most readers. Scope, timeline and fees come to you in writing first.

Which industries need Environment Audit?

We map Environment Audit to 6 sectors and it sits in our audits & training practice. Organisations usually arrive because a specific buyer, regulator or tender committee has asked. Tell us who is asking and we will confirm whether this is the standard that satisfies them.

Do you have to visit our premises?

Remote delivery covers most of a Environment Audit project comfortably. We recommend onsite presence for the initial assessment and for the certification audit, where being in the room genuinely changes the outcome.
