ISO Certification for the Oil and Gas Industry
In oil and gas, contractor prequalification and incident history decide who gets on site. We work out which standard satisfies the party asking, then take you to the certificate.

Something about oil and gas certification this page has not answered?
Why expert advice is worth having
Most oil and gas organisations are further along than they think. The difficulty is turning what you already do into evidence an auditor accepts.
Experience across sectors
Having implemented certification in oil and gas in very different operating environments, we can tell you quickly which of your worries are real and which are inherited from someone else's situation.
Self assessment is generous
Everyone marks their own certification in oil and gas homework kindly. An outside gap analysis tells you the uncomfortable part while it is still cheap to fix rather than three weeks before the audit.
The certification body is independent
We prepare you for certification in oil and gas, and an accredited body decides. Because we do not issue the certificate, our only interest is that you actually pass, which is what makes the preparation worth paying for.
A date you can actually commit to
Knowing which parts of certification in oil and gas can be compressed and which cannot is the difference between meeting a tender deadline and explaining why you missed it.
What certification is worth in oil and gas
The return usually shows up in three places: work you can now bid for, cost you stop losing, and trust you no longer have to argue for.
Operator prequalification listing
Exploration and refining operators screen contractors through prequalification systems that assess safety performance, competence records and management system certification before any tender is issued.
Process safety credibility
Documented control of isolation, hot work and change protects against the low frequency, high consequence events that define risk in hydrocarbon operations.
Turnaround schedule reliability
Planned competence, permits and inspection sequencing help complete shutdown work inside the window, where each additional day costs lost production.
Environmental consent protection
Monitoring of emissions, effluent and waste keeps operating consents secure and gives an inspector evidence instead of an explanation after an event.

Look at how it is structured before you commit
A good oil and gas certification document set is smaller than most people expect and far better organised. Numbering that makes sense, revision control that holds, records that prove the system ran rather than that someone wrote a policy. See it for yourself in a short demo before you decide who to work with.
Certification in oil and gas, in detail
Contractor screening across upstream, refining and distribution
Operators do not contract on price in this industry without first passing a supplier through prequalification. That process examines recordable incident history, safety management system certification, competence and training records for trades such as welding, rigging and confined space entry, and how you supervise your own subcontractors. Many operators use shared prequalification databases, so a poor record follows you across the sector.
Once working, contractor performance is audited on site. Permit compliance, isolation verification, gas testing, tool and equipment certification and the quality of toolbox briefings are all sampled. Product and service suppliers face a parallel route through equipment specification and inspection regimes, where material traceability and qualified welding procedures determine whether a fabrication is accepted. Failure in either route usually means removal from the approved list rather than a warning.
Execution inside permits, shutdowns and remote locations
Work in hydrocarbon facilities is governed by the permit system, and everything else fits around it. Access requires induction and often medical clearance, hot work needs gas testing and a fire watch, and isolations must be verified by named people. Rotational shift patterns and remote or offshore locations mean the crew executing the work may be a different team each swing, so procedures cannot rely on individuals remembering.
Turnarounds concentrate the risk. Hundreds of contractor personnel arrive for a few weeks, working long hours on unfamiliar plant, with schedule pressure pushing everyone. This is where incidents cluster and where systems either hold or collapse. Preparation, competence verification before mobilisation, a workable permit throughput plan and clear stop work authority are the practical controls, and they have to be agreed with the operator well before the shutdown begins.
Commercial standing for oil and gas suppliers
Certification and a clean safety record are what allow a contractor to bid for work inside the fence rather than peripheral services. The value difference is substantial, since maintenance, inspection and fabrication contracts at operating facilities run for years and carry rates that reflect the risk and competence involved. International operators apply the same criteria wherever they work, so certification also travels across borders.
There is a retention argument as well. Contracts contain safety performance conditions, and a serious incident can end an agreement immediately, regardless of technical delivery. Insurance for contracting in hydrocarbon environments is priced on demonstrated control. Managing that risk properly is the difference between a business that grows steadily in this sector and one that loses everything on a single event.

Oil and Gas certification questions
Which standard does a oil and gas organisation actually need?
It depends entirely on who is asking. In oil and gas, buyers and regulators ask for documented evidence. The usual starting points are ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 14064. We map 17 standards to this sector, and the first job is working out which one satisfies the party putting the requirement on you.
Can we certify to more than one standard at once?
Yes, and in oil and gas it is usually the cheaper route. Quality, environmental and health and safety systems share most of their structure, so running them as one integrated system means one document set, one internal audit programme and one certification audit instead of three.
We already have a system in place. Do we start again?
No. We begin by auditing your current way of working, and in oil and gas that typically shows sixty to seventy per cent of the requirement is already being met informally. The work is capturing it, not inventing it.
How much of our team's time will this take?
Less than most people expect when it is planned properly. The heaviest demand is training and internal audit, both of which we schedule around your operational commitments. We have never asked a client to stop operating to get certified.
What happens after we get the certificate?
Two surveillance audits follow across three years. Some oil and gas clients keep us on to prepare for each one, others train their own internal auditors and run it themselves. We are happy either way and will tell you honestly which makes sense at your size.
Prefer to just ask someone about oil and gas certification rather than fill in a form?
