Why expert advice is worth having
Organisations rarely fail ISO 22000 because the standard is hard. They fail because the evidence does not match what the auditor asks for.
Findings get closed, not logged
Most ISO 22000 audits produce findings. What matters is whether they are closed with genuine corrective action or papered over, because the next auditor reads the last report first.
Your team already has a day job
Running ISO 22000 in house means taking your most capable people off revenue work for months. For most organisations that hidden cost is larger than the fee for doing it properly.
Someone has to own the detail
ISO 22000 generates a large amount of small, unglamorous work. Left to whoever has a spare afternoon it drifts for months. Given an owner with a plan it takes weeks.
Template packs fail on contact
Downloaded ISO 22000 documentation describes a company that does not exist. Staff do not recognise the process, records never get made, and the gap shows up on audit day.
Something about ISO 22000 this page has not answered?
What ISO 22000 is worth to you
Certification is a commercial decision before it is a technical one. This is where the return usually shows up.
Retail Listings Secured
Modern trade buyers and food service chains ask for a recognised food safety system before they will list a new supplier.
Withdrawal Cost Avoided
One product withdrawal can cost more than a decade of system upkeep, and the brand damage outlasts the destroyed stock.
Customer Audit Fatigue Ends
A single certified system answers most customer questionnaires, freeing your quality team from hosting the same audit every month.
Export Documentation Ready
Overseas consignments move faster when food safety controls are documented in the format importing buyers already expect to see.

The Requirements of ISO 22000 Certification:
The High-level Structure of ISO 22000 consists of 10 clauses that revolve around the principle of Plan-Do-Check-Act. This Annex SL document consists of 10 sections, out of which the first three are introductory in nature while the rest seven are auditable and give the requirements for the implementation of ISO 22000 for FSMS. The structure contains some compulsory requirements for effective implementation of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in an organization.
Let’s understand the last seven sections for ISO 22000 standard in detail:
- SECTION 4: Context of the organization This section deals with the scope of FSMS in your food supply industry and understanding the needs of the consumers. It reviews all those factors that might affect your food product industry. They may be external or internal and can affect the interested parties such as consumers, clients, contractors, stakeholders, etc.
- SECTION 5: Leadership This section highlights the role of top management in the implementation of FSMS. It provides a method of assigning roles transparently to the staff and ensuring smooth communication throughout.
- SECTION 6: Planning This includes planning the objectives for your current management system and analyses the risks involved, in order to eliminate those risks. It also involves timely analyzing the food supply processes for a better management system.
- SECTION 7: Support In this section, the organization is made aware of the tools, technologies, and resources that are required for the implementation of FSMS. This section demonstrates the requirements as per the standard around competence, awareness, maintenance, and controlling documented data.
- SECTION 8: Operation This section deals with operational requirements for the proper food safety management system. It involves determining the requirements for food safety products and services as well as providing an assessment of the existing procedures and compliance to the legal obligations. The key requirement is to perform risk assessments regularly.
- SECTION 9: Performance evaluation This section involves monitoring and measurement of the progress of FSMS in terms of food safety products and services. The performance of your FSMS can be regularly assessed through monitoring and measurement techniques. This ensures the ability of your food safety management system in meeting the objectives demonstrated by your organization.
- SECTION 10: Improvement This section ensures that your food safety management system is effective. It ensures that your organization is able to meet the changing market demands by continually improving the management system.

Want to see what ISO 22000 looks like in practice before you commit?
ISO 22000 questions we are asked most
What does ISO 22000 actually require from us?
You will need a defined scope, documentation that reflects actual practice rather than intent, evidence the system has been operating for a reasonable period, trained staff, and at least one internal audit and management review on file.
What is a realistic timeline for ISO 22000?
Most ISO 22000 projects run three months or so. The single biggest variable is not the standard, it is how fast your team can be freed up for training and internal audit alongside their normal work.
Do you issue the ISO 22000 certificate yourselves?
No, and no consultant should. The certificate comes from an independent accredited certification body after their own audit. We prepare you to pass it and we are there on the day to close findings. That separation is exactly what makes the certificate worth holding.
What does ISO 22000 consultancy cost?
It depends on your headcount, how many sites are in scope and how much of a system already exists, so we quote after a short conversation rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong for most readers. Scope, timeline and fees come to you in writing first.
Which industries need ISO 22000?
We map ISO 22000 to 6 sectors and it sits in our food safety practice. Organisations usually arrive because a specific buyer, regulator or tender committee has asked. Tell us who is asking and we will confirm whether this is the standard that satisfies them.
Do you have to visit our premises?
Remote delivery covers most of a ISO 22000 project comfortably. We recommend onsite presence for the initial assessment and for the certification audit, where being in the room genuinely changes the outcome.
