Why expert advice is worth having

Organisations rarely fail Fire Audits because the standard is hard. They fail because the evidence does not match what the auditor asks for.

1

Integration saves real money

If Fire Audits sits alongside other standards you hold, running them as one system means one document set and one audit rather than paying for the same work several times over.

2

The standard says what, never how

Fire Audits is written to apply to every organisation on earth, which is exactly why it never tells you what to do in yours. Turning a clause into your process, on your sites, with your people, is the actual work.

3

Scope decides the price

Getting the Fire Audits scope wrong is expensive in both directions. Too wide and you pay for audit days you never needed. Too narrow and the certificate does not cover what your customer asked about.

4

The certification body is independent

We prepare you for Fire Audits, and an accredited body decides. Because we do not issue the certificate, our only interest is that you actually pass, which is what makes the preparation worth paying for.

What Fire Audits is worth to you

Certification is a commercial decision before it is a technical one. This is where the return usually shows up.

Insurance Claim Validity

Insurers cut or reject fire claims where statutory protection was missing, and an inspection trail proves yours was in place.

Occupancy Approvals Kept

Fire authority approvals and their renewals depend on documented system testing, and a lapse can close a building outright.

Dead Systems Found

Audits regularly find dry hydrant lines, detectors with no power and sprinkler heads blocked by racking nobody had noticed.

Life Safety Liability

After a fire, investigators ask what management knew, and inspection records separate diligence from negligence in that conversation.

Look at how it is structured before you commit

The quickest way to judge a consultant is to look at their paperwork. In a demo we open our Fire Audits document set and show you the hierarchy: what sits in the manual, what drops into procedures, what becomes a form, and how each one traces back to a clause the auditor will ask about.

Fire Audits in detail

Checking whether a building would survive its own fire

A fire audit examines whether a premises can prevent, detect, contain and survive a fire, and whether everyone inside can get out. It covers fire load and ignition sources, detection and alarm, suppression and hydrant systems, compartmentation, means of escape, emergency lighting, signage, and the human side: trained fire wardens, drills, and evacuation arrangements for anyone who cannot use a staircase. It assesses the building and its occupants together, because neither is safe without the other.

In India the reference points are the National Building Code, state fire service rules and the fire no objection certificate regime, alongside occupancy specific requirements. Audits are commissioned by manufacturing sites, warehouses, hospitals, hotels, malls, schools, high rise offices and residential complexes, often for insurance, for a licence renewal, or after an incident nearby focused attention. Landlords and tenants both ask, usually about the same building and rarely at the same time.

From hydrant pressure to the last exit door

The audit is physical. We measure and inspect rather than read the file: hydrant and sprinkler pressures and pump performance, water storage against requirement, detector coverage and panel condition, extinguisher type, placement, pressure and servicing, hose boxes, riser and pump room condition, and the state of fire doors, dampers and sealed penetrations where services pass through walls. Cable shafts and false ceilings get opened, since that is where compartmentation quietly fails.

Then escape. Travel distances, exit widths, staircase pressurisation, obstructed or locked routes, signage visibility, emergency lighting and assembly points are checked against actual occupancy load rather than the original drawing. Electrical panels, hot work practice, flammable storage and kitchen and utility risks are reviewed as ignition sources. We talk to the security and maintenance staff who would respond first, because their instructions are frequently different from the written plan.

The report, the compliance position and the drill that follows

The report sets out each deficiency with photographic evidence, the requirement it breaches, a risk rating and a specific corrective action, separated into what needs a contractor, what needs capital and what the maintenance team can fix this week. We give a compliance position against the applicable code and rules. MSCi performs the audit directly. Statutory clearance remains a decision for the local fire authority, and we prepare you for that inspection.

Sites usually act fastest on the cheap items, and those matter: an obstructed exit, a locked stair door, an extinguisher last serviced years ago. Beyond that, the report gives a defensible basis for the capital request that has been refused twice already. Insurance discussions improve. And when the drill is run afterwards, evacuation time gets measured rather than estimated, which normally ends the argument about whether the arrangements work.

Fire Audits questions we are asked most

What does Fire Audits actually require from us?

Verifies fire safety provision against statutory requirements and insurer expectations. You will need a defined scope, documentation that reflects actual practice rather than intent, evidence the system has been operating for a reasonable period, trained staff, and at least one internal audit and management review on file.

What is a realistic timeline for Fire Audits?

Most Fire Audits projects run three months or so. The single biggest variable is not the standard, it is how fast your team can be freed up for training and internal audit alongside their normal work.

Do you issue the Fire Audits certificate yourselves?

No, and no consultant should. The certificate comes from an independent accredited certification body after their own audit. We prepare you to pass it and we are there on the day to close findings. That separation is exactly what makes the certificate worth holding.

What does Fire Audits consultancy cost?

It depends on your headcount, how many sites are in scope and how much of a system already exists, so we quote after a short conversation rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong for most readers. Scope, timeline and fees come to you in writing first.

Which industries need Fire Audits?

We map Fire Audits to 7 sectors and it sits in our audits & training practice. Organisations usually arrive because a specific buyer, regulator or tender committee has asked. Tell us who is asking and we will confirm whether this is the standard that satisfies them.

Do you have to visit our premises?

Remote delivery covers most of a Fire Audits project comfortably. We recommend onsite presence for the initial assessment and for the certification audit, where being in the room genuinely changes the outcome.
