Why expert advice is worth having
Organisations rarely fail IATF 16949 because the standard is hard. They fail because the evidence does not match what the auditor asks for.
Findings get closed, not logged
Most IATF 16949 audits produce findings. What matters is whether they are closed with genuine corrective action or papered over, because the next auditor reads the last report first.
A date you can actually commit to
Knowing which parts of IATF 16949 can be compressed and which cannot is the difference between meeting a tender deadline and explaining why you missed it.
Auditors ask for particular evidence
Someone who has sat through hundreds of IATF 16949 audits knows which records get requested first and which answers collapse under a follow up question. That knowledge is only earned in the room.
Experience across sectors
Having implemented IATF 16949 in very different operating environments, we can tell you quickly which of your worries are real and which are inherited from someone else's situation.

What IATF 16949 is worth to you
Certification is a commercial decision before it is a technical one. This is where the return usually shows up.
OEM Supplier Status
No vehicle manufacturer places direct volume business with a supplier that is not certified, whatever the part price looks like.
Part Approvals Cleaner
Core tool discipline in advance planning, failure mode analysis and measurement systems means submissions pass with fewer rejections and less delay.
Warranty Chargebacks Contested
Traceability and process data give you grounds to argue a customer chargeback rather than silently absorbing the cost.
Scrap Rates Controlled
Statistical process control catches drift early, before a full shift of output ends up on a quarantine pallet.

Look at how it is structured before you commit
Documentation for IATF 16949 fails when it describes a company nobody recognises. Ours maps clause by clause onto how you actually operate, so the manual, the procedures and the record formats hang together and an auditor can follow the thread. Book a demo and we will show you that structure on screen, not describe it.
IATF 16949 in detail
The quality rulebook for the automotive supply chain
IATF 16949 is the automotive quality management standard, applied together with ISO 9001 rather than instead of it. It adds what vehicle manufacturers require of their suppliers: product safety, risk based thinking through failure mode analysis, control of embedded software, supplier development, contingency planning, warranty management and total productive maintenance. It also brings customer specific requirements, which are mandatory and differ between manufacturers. Certification is governed by IATF rules noticeably stricter than those of a general standard.
It applies to organisations manufacturing production parts, service parts or accessories for the automotive chain, at tier one, tier two and below. Being asked for it is rarely optional, since it is a condition of nomination for most direct suppliers and tier ones pass equivalent expectations downward. Design responsible suppliers face a wider scope than build to print manufacturers. Sites making both automotive and other products still need the automotive scope defined with precision.
Core tools, customer specific requirements and the numbers behind them
We begin with the core tools, because auditors test them and because they are what actually controls launch risk: advanced product quality planning with real gate reviews, process flow and failure mode analysis linked to the control plan so a change in one moves the others, measurement systems analysis, statistical process control on characteristics that matter, and a part approval submission matching what the customer portal demands. The linkage between those documents is the thing most sites get wrong.
Then the system around them: layered process audits, error proofing verification, control of changes and deviations, contingency plans covering utility failure, labour shortage and supplier interruption, supplier selection and development with performance monitoring, warranty analysis including no trouble found returns, and traceability sufficient to bound a recall. We collect and apply each customer's specific requirements, since the certification audit checks them line by line against the customer portal.
Certification, and the discipline it imposes on launches
The deliverable is a functioning system: process ownership, linked quality planning documents, capability and gauge studies built on real data, approved part submissions, audit programmes covering process, product and system, and performance data reviewed by management with decisions recorded. An IATF recognised certification body conducts the audit and issues the certificate under IATF rules, which include strict handling of major nonconformities. We prepare the site, train the team and run the internal audit programme.
What changes is launch behaviour and scrap. Programmes that used to fire fight at pre production start finding problems during design and process planning, where correction is cheap. Customer scorecards improve because responses to issues have root cause behind them rather than a promise. And when a complaint does arrive, containment and traceability answer it within hours instead of days, which is often what protects the next nomination.

Would half an hour on IATF 16949 with a consultant be useful?
IATF 16949 questions we are asked most
What will we have to put in place for IATF 16949?
The requirements fall into four buckets: define it, document it, run it long enough to generate records, then audit it yourself before the certification body does.
How long does IATF 16949 take?
Two to four months is the honest range for most organisations, measured from gap analysis to the certification audit. What moves it is how much you already document, how quickly people can be released for training, and the certification body's own diary.
Do you issue the IATF 16949 certificate yourselves?
No, and no consultant should. The certificate comes from an independent accredited certification body after their own audit. We prepare you to pass it and we are there on the day to close findings. That separation is exactly what makes the certificate worth holding.
How is IATF 16949 consultancy priced?
We price per engagement rather than per seat, because a single site business and a five site group need very different amounts of work. You get a written proposal covering scope, audit days and fees before committing to anything.
Which industries need IATF 16949?
We map IATF 16949 to 2 sectors and it sits in our automotive practice. Organisations usually arrive because a specific buyer, regulator or tender committee has asked. Tell us who is asking and we will confirm whether this is the standard that satisfies them.
Can you work remotely, or do you need to be on site?
Both, and hybrid. Gap analysis and audit day usually benefit from someone physically present, while documentation and training work perfectly well remotely. We fit delivery to your sites and schedule rather than the reverse.
